I just bought a thread fin goby last night. He is currently in my 10g quarantine tank. The only thing in the tank is a 1 1/4" x 6" piece of PVC, no substrate. My question is, is it okay to leave him in quarantine or is it better to move him to the main tank immediately.

He looks very stressed. At first he was in the very top corner of the tank curled behind the Whisper filter intake. Now he is curled in the bottom corner of the tank.

He hasn't eaten anything yet, not interested in the least in food. Whoever has experience with these fish, have you quarantined them or have you placed them directly in the main tank? If you have quarantined them do they seem to become more relaxed after a few days?

Any suggestions?

Unless there is evidence of ich etcetera, I would put him in the main tank and close off the lights. Don't bug him for a while. He will get a chance to relax in the rock. Feed her the garlic treatment as a precaution by placing garlic soaked food near where she sites herself.

Sorry, the other choice is to leave her in the QT with the lights off and some rock inside.
Leave her alone. You are stressing your fish by checking on it all the time (not a flame).

naesco,

I placed two pieces of LR in the Q-tank and fed him this morning and he did eat. He still looks pretty stressed out. I have him in the basement with the tank light out. Nobody goes down there and I only checked on him in the morning and in the evening. He just looks very very nervous and him curling his tail makes me nervous, that's usually not a good sign. I was thinking it was because the tank does not mimic his enviroment at all. But the main tank does, that's why I asked about if I should even quarantine him.

I will leave him for another day or two if he doesn't settle down any, I will move him.

Thanks for the help.
Frank
