what do you do with your sump?

I've heard people mention using sumps as temporary nuisance storage (crabs, shrimp, etc), partial filtration systems (algae, clams, etc), and a couple weird uses too.

What else do people use sumps for? How many of you put lights on your sumps? Or do most people just use it to filter and heat water?

I us eit for storing some critters and also have my skimmer in there. I also have LR and rubble that I use to mount frags on. Do have a light over sump that stays on during the day and a fan over it.

Half of my sump is partitioned off for a sand bed. There's also some macro in there that is lighted by a double mini-might light. I have it set so that the light comes on when the tank lights go off. I heard that this helps with pH swings at night. The sandbed is about 6" deep and well seeded from my other tanks. I also have my skimmer and heater in there. I really like how it works and can't believe I never used one before.
