Hello. I have a 5 inch lunar wrasse that is in my 90 gallon all by himself where he has been for some time now. I have read these fish are notoriously aggressive toward any new addition to the tank. I really want to add this juvenile Naso tang that I have in my room. Is there anyway to do this that I am unaware of... maybe turn the lights on or introduce two new fish to the tank at once... or even take the lunar out and put the new ones in and then add the lunar again?

Please help. I really like my Lunar and don't want to give him to LFS.

Thanks!

Not a single reply to this one guys!? please help me out. Atleast give me your insight on whether or not to try any method at all.

He has already eaten a small damsel I put in there.

I have a lunare wrasse in a 120. It's about 6". It was put in after a few green chromis, Fiji blue devil and two tangs. It got along fine with the tangs which were similar sized. The green chromis got killed. The damsel has been hiding a lot more since the wrasse does chase it. I recently put a lawnmower blenny in the tank. Wrasse doesn't seem to mind the blenny.

I won't be putting any small fish in this tank until the wrasse is removed. This fish can make short work of a 3" minnow.

The last time I had a lunar wrasse, he got to be about 3 or 4" and then he started gutting everything else in the tank, starting with a nice potter's angel. They're not very nice, and will definitely eat whoever you add in there, maybe not at first, but eventually.

Lunar wrasse can differ from individuals.
Some get along peacefully with tank mates. Others simply treat every fish an enemy and yet, some can be unpredictable.
Unpredictable because its carnivorous nature would cause it to turn against its familiar tankmates out of the blue.
In my early years of reefing, I've experienced all three such behaviors.

To your question, I must say the element of risk cannot be deducted as a juvenile naso would be timid and vulnerable.

cheers

I agree with Henry. I have a 6 in. lunnare and everyone told me he will wipe out anything added thereafter. My fish seems to be a pussycat.. never ever given me any probs. and i ahve added many new docile fishes (pygmies, anthias, coris wrasse, cxlowns to name a few. I believe that i cound trow in about fish you name and he would not touch him. Now his constent swimming motion may drive em crazt though.swoooosh....

A friend of mine at the office added a 6" lunare to a 90g that was already home to 6" Blueface angle and huge mapa puffer. Although the fish all appear to be getting along ok, the blueface has had a cloudy eye a few times. We suspect that the wrasse is harrasing the angle.

Jeff, I wouldn't recommend the juv. naso. But you may want to consider similarly sized triggers, eel, or puffers. They all share same food types.
