ok I've had my royal gramma for a month and all was fine now suddenly he is ill. The other tank occupants are fine two percs and all my corals are open and beautiful.

The is no signs of any parasites such as ick but the fish has just layed on its side hiding behind a rock all day he appears to be gasping

I just tested my water and everything is fine Amm 0 Nitite 0 nitrates less than 5 ppm (reads between 0 and 5 on test kit same as always)

he is looking rather thin but has been eating fine up until today Im dumbfounded please help I can find nothing wrong ???????

Try some live foods to see if he'll perk up. If he's got an internal parasite, he'll eat and get thinner at the same time, and there's not much you can do without treating him for the parasite. Most of the time, parasites will be in a state of remission because of a healthy fish, but any number of factors can contribute to a slightly repressed immune system in your fish which leads to the parasite getting a foothold on your fish and it eventually succumbing to the parasite. If you can, catch some amphipods and release them into your tank and see if your royal gramma eats them. Mine loves them and hunts the overflow box for them all the time and is the only fish in my tank that can actually catch them on a consistent basis.
