I am getting a 125 gallon tank soon and was thinking about lighting on it. I dont want my electric bill to run to high. So I was thinking of buying just 2-250watt MH for this tank. The bulbs that I was thinking of buying are German MH250W 20000K HQI Bulb Radium. Do you guys think this will be an ok lighting systems. I have 2-96 watt PCs but want to avoid using them. So let me know thanx....

Hi dark,
I am not sure as to the 20,000 radium in the 250 watt ballast, I know that dr. mac runs the 400 watt 20,000k with great revolts, but I don't think you will have enough light there. First the MH spread is 2' x 2' and the tank you are lighting is what 48"x 24" x24". so the two MH bulbs will be enough. But what about actinic's I have a 90 gallon ( 48" x 18" x 24")right now with 2 250 watt Isawski 6500k bulbs and 4 PC compacts 03's I feel the actinic bulb is needed just as much as the strong light of the MH. Having just under 400 watts of actinic will only do you good and not increase the cost of running your tank all that much.
