Eventually, you'll probably get corrosion on the metal. I used to have some metal supports over an old tank and it was impossible to avoid. The salt creep would become discolored from the corrosion, so I tried not to let any of it fall back into the tank.

I'm building an open back wood hood, and want to put a flat aluminum bar connecting the lower back corners of the hood's sides (so the flat bar will run along the top rear lip of the tank) to prevent bowing/warping and add structural support. Any dangers to this? The metal will not be touching any water.

I'll also have a few L shaped aluminum brackets elsewhere for support.

If I get salt creep on the bar, do I scrape the salt back into the tank or will it be contaminated by the metal?
