I have 2 T. derasa clams in my tank. I also have a large yellow tang. The tang likes to nip at the algae that grows on the the top of the clams shell. In turn, the clam closes up. The clam has been extending it's mantle on one side but not the other. What can I do????? There is NO WAY to get this tang out of the tank and I dont wanna get rid of the clam. The tang dosent really bother the other clam.

To boot, I have a hawk fish that likes to pearch right IN the clams. This dosent make them happy either. The tank has been in for 3 years and the clams about 9 months. Any ideas??????

Thanx,
Dennis

NaH2Ofreak,

Most Tangs(esp. yellow tangs) tend to graze on anything that have algae. How often does it bother your clam? If very often, then it's not getting enough greens for it's diet. I recommend to try feeding it a lot of greens(algae/nori). I say as much as it can eat(don't worry if it's stomach bulges out). This will not greatly increase the daily amount of pollutant(skimmer and bio filter will quickly clean it up) and soon you will know it's limit and how much is needed for it's nutrition. You should see it grazing less on the side of your clams soon enough. Hope this helps and goodluck!
