Next week I will be making a DIY hood to replace the hanging hood I have on my 180G

It will hold 3 x 400W MH 2 x 96W PC Actinc and some vho actinics (not sure of how many, nor length yet.

I am looking for some neat ideas on a hood design.

I think I am planning on having the top hinged so it opens upward at the front for access. I might even divide the hinged portion into 2 or even 3 smaller sections that would open.

question is, should I have the lights fixed to the panels that open upwards, or should they be on a fixed subframe that leaves them stationary when you lift the top?

Ideas? Suggestion??

Check out my page here for pictures of my hood. I like it, but I'm going to build another one here in a couple months. I plan on using the hardware from this hood though since it is awesome (and too expensive to buy a second time).

I saw on someone's site one time (can't remeber who), but instead of a hinged hood, they had sliding panels on the front of the canopy. Seemed like a nice idea to me.

Here are a couple pics of my canopy.

That gives you a general idea - I need to take some new shots to show how I mounted my VHO's to the hinged door of the canopy. They flip up when I open the front and when I close it they are about 2" off the water.
