My uncle is moveing to California for a new job. He had an awesome reef tank. He sold all of his corals except a red gorgonia. He also gave me a bunch of fish which I put in a new tank that I have. I am really going to miss him. I remember when I was about 5 and I would go to his house and we would just watch the fish crabs and coral all day!! He is the reason why I have a 29 gallon fish only tank and a 120 gallon tank which I hope will one day be a nice reef tank. My question is, Is a red gorgonia hard to feed? My uncle said it may eat reef snow. Does anyone use this? Does it work for this type of coral. I have read that this may be a tough coral to keep. This is my first coral, I would really like it to do well. Any input on this coral would be greatly appreciated.

I have a red and a orange gorgonian(Diodogorgia Nodulifera) and I keep them in dark parts of the tank in medium current. I feed them a few times a week small meaty foods like brine shrimp. They don't have zooxanthellae so light doesn't matter, but if you do keep them in light just make sure they don't get algae growth on them because if that happens their polyps won't open until they are cleaned off. I think they are a high maintenance first coral to keep because of the feeding.

Good luck with it

I agree with Mike, these Gorgs are tough to keep and do require feeding. They come from deep water and therefore need to be fed alot.
