Hello,

I am going to upgrade my current lighting (4x110 VHO, 2x48 NO) to MH in the next couple of months and would like some comments suggestions,etc.. on my initial thoughts. The tank is a normal sized 75gal without a center brace.

I am thinking of adding 1 x 250 watt 10K in the center of the tank with the 4 VHO running all actinics. I also thought about putting a 24" 55 watt 10K PC on each side of the MH in order to have three different lighting regimes.

I would use the VHO as dawn / dusk then the PCs would come on followed by the MH to simulate 6-8 hours of mid-day sunlight then the bulbs would go out in reverse order. Or I could switch the PCs and the VHO This would mean the VHO would be 2 actinic white and 2 .03 actinics and the PCs would be .03 actinics.

The tank currently houses several LPS, Blue-rim derasa, a couple of SPS. I would like the upgrade in order to keep more SPS and T. Max. and T. Cro.

Finally, these might be elementary MH questions but, which way is the best way to mount the bulb parallel or perpendicular to the front glass? And should the bulb be located directly in the center of the tank or up against the back? I guess my real question is which way does the light come out of the bulb in an arc from side to side or from the front forwards?

Any thoughts???

4 110 watt actincs would give a very blue look against one 250 watt 65k MH. Too blue IMO. Also MH are good for 2' of covorage per bulb. I would get a double PFO ballast the cost isnt that big of a difference. Mounting the halides depends on the reflector you chose, different reflectors are made for mounting different ways but always centered over your water.

How did you get a 4' 75 with no center brace, doesnt it bow?

thanks for the reply. It is an oceanic knock off looks exactly the same only without the center brace. I think it is a ocean's view. I dont have any problems with the tank bowing. Do you think that 2 x 250 would add alot of heat to the tank and room?
