72g tank with 4x96 PC's. Clams or no clams?

Curious if my lights are enough for any kind of clam. I've heard they need lots of light, so if it's iffy I'll hold off. Thanks for any suggestions.

You might be able to do it putting them high up the rock, but I would go with the less light demanding clams.

Center of the tank upper third in height and they should be fine. However you will have difficulty viewing them properly.

I have a 72 gallon bow front with 4x96watt PC's also. I had a blue rim deresa clam on the substrate for two years. It did so well and got so large I had to trade it in to the LFS because it literally outgrew the tank.. It went from 2 inches to 8 inches in two years. It was a blue rim deresa clam...really beautiful.

There may be some animal to animal variation as well. Some may be higher light strains than others. I know of a customer/friend who didn't see any significant growth under basically the same setup but more concentrated over a 3 foot 65 gallon.

This would be impossible to determine however, more of a luck of the draw thing if you are on the edge of necessary lumens for the animal.

I have a 125 w/ 6 96W PC's and I have 5 crocea or maxima clams (had 7 until the damn xenia overgrew 2 of them) that are situated mostly in the top 1/2 of the tank. They are all doing well and I have had no problems (except with the xenia that is, 2 more were overgrown until I pruned my xenia a few days ago).
