How big should a refugium be compared to the main tank? What type of lighting should be used for the refugium?I just went to www.inlandaquatics.com and saw great refugium flora and fauna kits which I would buy one of each for the refugium and I would also buy one 9 for $99 kit from www.ipsf.com for the refugium. How deep should the sandbed be for the refugium and should I use special grade caribsea subtrate for the refugium?
I was also thinking about buying some live sand from www.candybass.com for the tank and the refugium.Lastly I was thinking about buying a dentrivore kit for the tank and 9 for $99 kit from www.inlandaquatics.com and www.ipsf.com for the tank.Does this all sound good?By the way the tank will be a 135 gallon tank(72"l,24"w,18"h) and will have a lifereef sump with skimmer, calcium reactor, etc.Sorry for the long post.

Nick, this is what I did.
I have a 180 gallon main tank and a 75 gallon sump/ref. The ref portion is about 2/3 of the 75 gallon.
1. Sand - 4" of oolithic.
2. Kits - I bought the 9 for 99 from IPSF and a kit from Inland. These kits were split between the main tank and the ref, they multiply quite quickly.
3. Caulerpa - I have about 4 or 5 varieties in the ref. Generally all you need is a very small portion to begin with, if conditions are good you will be harvesting in a short time.
4. L/R - I have maybe 30 lbs in the ref.

If you buy these two kits I don't feel that you need anything else. Remember, you will need to feed these critters in order to keep them alive when you first start up.
