Is anyone using Seachem Reef Iodide? I am considering trying it and I use carbon most of the time. I am wondering if I add the Iodine to the tank, how quickly would the carbon remove it. Or would I have to stop running carbon if I am going to add Iodine. Any ideas?

I use it (as I have been told SeaChem products are the best on the market)...however, I don't use carbon except in isolated cases.

I would pull the carbon (unless you're filtering something specific), and start dosing the iodine. I would also suggest if you're running a skimmer, that you dose DAILY and not the twice a week as you will have iodine present the day you dose, but the skimmer will remove the rest by the next day. This is what was recommended to me by a buddy who is a marine biologist.

Hope this helps...

I'm not sure if it is carbon , the skimmer (watch it go banannas if you add Iodide to your sump), or both. Iodide has quite a short life once exposed to light too. In any event Iodide seems to disappear at about the rate I add it to my tank.

I dose daily - you may need to too.

I did use Seachem's product until very recently. However, it's much cheaper to buy Potassium Iodide and mix your own. You need to keep the solution in a brown bottle to protect it from light.

I use 20 grams of potassium iodide in 1.5 litres of water and dose 15ml a day in my 150 gal. That keeps my Iodide at about the right level. This costs me about 1/20 of the cost of a commercial preparation.
