Purchased a camel back shrimp a few days ago. This is my 1st shrimp. Really cool, the only thing I've noticed so far is my Yellow Tail Damsel bugging him, but shrimp just stands up and boxes at the fish and he goes away. I admit to not researching this before pruchase, spur of the moment kinda thing. Anything I should be aware of in taking care of it? 55FO, am about to upgrade lighting and add live rock in the next month or so. Thanks for any input.

i bought these shrimp by accident instead of peppermint shrimp. they will be fine in a fish only tank. however if you get corals they will eat polyps and maybe other corals. i have seen them eat yellow polyps and zoanthids in my tank before i caught them and returned them to the LFS.

As far as I know, they are o.k. w/fish. However, corals may be in danger of a "dance de la morte"! (notice the dancing he does) They seem to have a taste for many soft corals/sponges. Not sure with other species.

I had a pair a few years ago. In a F/O they are a great addition just don't put in any crustacean eating fish like wrasses and triggers etc.. I don't recommend them for a reef because mine had a taste for polyps. I would also watch the calcium and iodine levels, normally in a F/O tank you don't have too, because I've heard that they need these elements in the course of their molting process.

Good Luck

Thanks for replies. I think I will be ok with the iodine thing. My hermits molt on a fairly regular basis. I assume that is the same as shrimp molting. He is fun to watch. Not out much during the day but really active early in the morning when I first turn on the lights and do the first feeding.
