I'm going to attempt to build a 480 gallon (8'x4'x2') tank out of 3/4" plywood with a single large glass plate mounted in the front panel for viewing. This will be set up as a FOWLR for my Hippo tang, anything smaller would be cruel ;-)

My research indicates that 1/2" plate glass will be sufficient as long as the height of the aquarium stays under 28" irregardless of the length or depth of the tank. Is this correct? I'm also assuming that 1/2" acrylic would also be sufficient. Is this a valid assumption?

Should I go thicker? 3/4"
Or perhaps a tempered 1/2" glass plate?
