It was staying put and seemed happy and then he disappeared. I looked all over and couldn't find him anywhere, then I realized that he had just shrunk down into the hole in the rock where he had been. Several hours later he emerged again?? What makes them do this ? does anyone know? I didn't realize that they could "get that small"! Here's a pic of him emerging
thanks guys, they sure are interesting

If you continue to see him shying from light or constantly moving from places to places, that means he is not happy with where he is. Just look out for it.

Also, don't feed him so much food for a while. Let him rest and get used to the surroundings. It is debated if feeding creates more stress for the BTA's. I would let it be for a while and see what's up.

OK thanks, but the thing is...is that he hasn't moved anywhere, he just retracted into his hole for a few hours... and the reason for them doing this is what I'd still like to know?
thanks again

My guess is that she was performing a waterchange. Anemones will expel most/all of their water from time to time. It seems that they need to change water. However it could be a sign of a near future split. The stress of a new home could cause a split. Either way I wouldn't worry. My anemone did the same on her first day. Fortunately I was forewarned and I wasn't shocked. To this day they all shrivel up about once a day or two.

Good luck
