How do I get ricordia to migrate to rubble

Hello,

I have a ricordia covered rock in my tank. I placed some rubble next to it in the hopes that some would spread onto it. Well for a while they seemed to be moving in the direction of the rubble but now they seem to have come to a standstill. How do I get them to migrate to the rubble without damage? I've promised a few polyps to someone already and am hoping to be able to deliver pretty soon. Would it harm the ricordia if I just pulled it from the rock it was attached to?

You could make cuttings of it, those propogate pretty easily. You could try pealing up the base, but it will most likely tear which is not good.

I would make cuttings personally, I find it is easiest and the parent colony will reform and you can eventually do it again.

I don't see anything wrong with tearing, it's not any worse than using a razor. Peeling ricordea is difficult at best, i'd just slice them off of the rock with a razor blade and put the cutting in a shallow tray filled w/ rubble or crushed coral. If you can get it attached to a rubbly piece in the tray, you're golden. If you have to let it attach to crushed coral, no sweat, just superglue the 'shroom to a rock via the newly attached crushed coral pieces.

Good luck, and don't be afraid to "hurt" them!

Yeah just use a razor and slice it off as close as possible to the rock it's on. You could also slice your ricordia into halves...

I don't see anything wrong with tearing, it's not any worse than using a razor.

Tearing is more traumatic to the tissue, while it isn't much of an issue, I have had mushrooms get infections at the site of a tear. I think it is slightly worse than using a razor.

If the rock is dead coral rock, the Ricordia can be chisel off the rock pretty easily without any damage to the coral. Depends on the size of the base, you can use a screwdriver to cut a piece of the rock of and the coral will come off with the rock rumble. With the rock on the base, the coral will be easier to stay put, instead of blowing around the tank if you use a razor to cut off the rock. It will only take a few hours to recover if you do it out of water, instead of days if you use razer. My 2 cents.
