I'm setting up my 65gal FOWLR tank and am going to put it in the living room. Is there a problem with putting the tank next to but under a speaker that is suspended on the wall. I know we won't want to blast the speakers but for normal tv viewing do you see this as a big problem?

Probably not. Only a very small percent (1%) of airborne noise energy will be transmitted to walls, tank, etc. The major propagation path would be through structure--through the floor and stand.

Now, remember all of the stuff hanging directly on the tank--skimmer, powerheads, return pump. It's a noisy place to begin with. Your fish are already probably deafer than posts.

the higher humidity, occasional splash, etc. may put your speaker's cabinet at risk of getting ruined.if, (hope this never happens to you!) the speaker should accidentally fall, what happens to the tank? sounds like a potentially dangerous situation....

The speakers have been up for I don't know how many years and never a budge, even in an earthquake. They are almost touching the cealing and there is a lip on the shelf to keep them in place. The tank light will be level with the top of the lip with about 3 or 4 inches distance from eachother.

then you should be o.k.-i don't think your fish will really be affected.not trying to be a harbinger of bad luck- but i'm a big believer in murphy's law, and i allways try not to place an aquarium under, or over, other electrical appliances like stereo's, t'v's, etc.at least consider insuring the tank(if it and your livestock, carpeting, etc. warrant it, just in case!) :D
btw-don't know what kind of lighting you'll be using- maybe check on the heat it may produce?luck

Like I said, the noise from the speakers will be small compaired to the noise of the tank machinery.

btw- most fish have excellent hearing/vibration reception ability, and it is possible that heavier bass vibrations may spook 'em abit, initially

Yes, the first half hour of Private Ryan might worry them. ;)
