Hi,

I need to buy a water purification system for a new house and would also like to be able to use it for my aquarium. Please give me suggestions on a good deal. I was going to buy from Dave Visovati but have read mixed reviews about his business. I've also seen some systems for around $200 online. Are these any good since they're so cheap? Thanks ahead for the replies.

the purity you need for a reef is going to cost you a lot of money! most home filtration systems filter at 5 microns, just particulates mind you. the standard upgrade is to 1 micron. then you get into ro/di systems after that stage. $$$ this is based upon human use volumes. an aquarium can top out at a couple of gallons a day, usually. two flushes kicks that!

go with a particulate filter for household use. you can get a ro/di for a couple of hundred or a small distiller for $100. the pros to the ro/di is volume of water made with a little sacrifice in purity. the distiller is purer but at 1-2 gallons a day is better for makeup water only. you can drink the distilled water though.

look up water companies on the net. sometimes the bottled companies also handle filtration. culligan water is the guy in my area. :)

I bought a 100 gal/day 5 stage RO/DI on Ebay for 137 including shipping. I've been using it for about 2 months now. TDS is reading zero. So far I'm happy with it.

RCSheng,

You talked about less purity with the RO/DI systems yet you mentioned this being on a higher level than the drinking systems. How is RO/DI water for drinking? I checked out Culligan's site and other commercial water purification systems. They seem to be similar to the RO/DI systems sold for aquarium purposes. I guess my question is can I trust aquarium RO/DI to produce healthy, good drinking water???

Thanks.

Go with Aquatic Reef Systems, just set up my 4stage RO/DI and they were there on Sunday to help out.
