I'm setting up my tank, I have it in my living room and started filling it up with water and noticed when I re-checked the level that it is fine from right to left (front & back) but that it is tilting slightly to the back of the tank. (when looking at the level bubble there are 2 sets of lines, it is touching the outside line, but still near the middle, probably about 1 cm off) How would you recommend fixing this (my tank stand is on carpet) or do you think it will settle to level once all the water, rock, and sand is placed in. I have a 65 gal with about .5" of sand and about 20gal of water in it right now. The tanks dimentions are 36" (length) x 23" (depth) x 18 (width).

Rian, thats close to a half inch, correct? I doubt very much that it will level out. What I would try to do is shim the stand right now to get it to level.

hi.
First of all, make sure the stand is level. Then fill the tank a little bit with water, and measure the height of the water on all four corners. what is difference between the lowest reading and the highest reading?

This is easier for most of us to visualize than how close is the bubble to the center of two cross hairs...

shimming typically is the recommandation if the level is off too much. After an earthquake, you may need to reshim the stand again...

I measured the water in front and back on the sides of the tank. There is a difference of | | about this (the area inside the lines). It is lower in the back by this much. Should I still try to shim it?

hi.
I guess it is very difficult to get anything quantitative out of you  , but | | is small enough that you may forget about shimming. But to be safe, just do it anyway.

Raise one end of the Level (the lower end) until the Level is "level" (ie, flat). Then measure the difference between the bottom of the Level and the top of the tank to determine how much lower the the back of the tank is as compared to the front. We might be able to give you a better answer if know this measurement.

Sorry about the size, math is not a strong subject for me. I believe that the size difference between the water in the front of the tank to the back of the tank is about 1/3 or 1/4 of a mm.

You mean 1/3 or 1/4 of a cm, right?

Find a ruler with inches :P

ok, the best way to describe it is on a ruller with inch and mm. On the mm side, it is about 2 or 3 lines wide, not mm wide. And on the inch side it is about 1/8 of an inch. it is a small amount.

I guess so, I'm sorry I'm not very good at measurements. If the space I gave above is about 3 or 4mm or 1/8 inch than that is the correct amount.
