Correct temp for a reef tank.

Hey guys,
I've done some reading on what temp you should keep your reef tank at, and it seems to vary greatly. Some say 78, some say that's too cold and you should keep it at 82. i was just wondering if anybody had any advice on the correct temp to keep the tank at. I know different corrals prefer different temps, but an i am curious to an overall preferable temp.

temp now that'l stur some people up! if u asked 10 differant reef keepers that question? u would get 10 very contradicting figures! IN good old great britain there are still conflicting answers,BUT i will try to answer them. Firstly reef or fish only? fish will tolerate higher temps most inverts wont, i run my 530 gal reef @ 27degrees normally but now its getting very cold especially in the welsh valley's , i'v had to lower because of condensation it's now 25.5 but ithink the answer is not just x figure but keeping it stable the sea won't have much swing in temp will it? i keep my tank +- .3 which is achieved with lots of fans controlled by my octopus system,i'v found in the past trying to run@ 28 is close to what they can tolerate bleaching is not far away?I know someone WILL probally say wot about low tide ect but i'm being as honest as i can so in a nut shell 25 to 27ish tops hpe to have helped GT... s. wales

For what it's worth, I try to run my reef at 80-82 degrees. I think being constant with temp is most important to the citters living there......Good Luck!!

if you maintain your tanks temp between 75-82F you should be fine for 95%+ of all commonly sold animals.

the lower the "slower" things will grow but you have leeway if something fails like a chiller. The higher the temp, the quicker things can go terribly wrong but you could see "faster" growth rates.

There is no optimum tank temperature since the animals will becoming from so many different depths & temps, all you can do is find a temp that you are comfortable with and maintain it.

I keep mine between 77 and 79 in the summer months and 75 -79 in the winter. I don't worry too much about the swing given that they occur over a 24 hr period and nothing in the tank has ever been affected in over 4 years.
