i was reading an article onine and it said that you shouldn't turn off your RO unit unless you plan on flushing it and taking it apart and storing it in a ziplock in the refrigerator. i've always just turned off my RO unit until i needed more water. is this ok, or should i take the thing apart after i turn it off?

I've always just turned off the water supply to mine - no problems so far ( I've been running r/o for something like 7 years ), but I do run it at least once every couple of weeks.
I think they may be worried about the membrane drying out or various undesirables like algae, fungus and bacteria growing in parts of the filter if it's left for too long.
