Hi , I've a problem with an explosive infestation of brown algae.How can I solve it? My reef tank water values are (salifert tests):
nitrate =0 , fosfate =0 , Kh=10°dKh , Ca=400 ppm , silicate = 0 , Sr =4 ppm , Mg =1000 ppm , T=25°C , d=1.023 g/ml .I use only reverse osmosys water .
thanks in advance

Alex

I've 2*150 W 10000°K HQI lamps and 2*36 W actinic neon in a 300 liters tank.The HQI are lighted 10 Hours in a day.

I'm in the same boat!
I thought the brown algae I have is aiptasia. I have been told that peppermint shrimps are the answer. Any thoughts, anybody?

Brown algae (diatoms) require silicates and a little light to thrive. Even using RO water with a Hi-S filter, I still get it for a month after I turn the lights on. It will go away eventually, presumably after all the silicates are used up.
