I have been trying to kill the mantis shrimp for a year now. I put a baby coris gaimard to get the pyramidelline snails off the clam. I saw a cloud of sand then the coris came up with the mantis shrimp in his mouth. spit it out then left it for dead. The shrimp was 1 inch long.
That's fantastic. I'll look to buy one soon. I had read they're not reef safe however - are there any problems with certian types of corals? Also heard they can be aggressive. Any experiences?
The books say this coris reaches 13" in length and lists every crustacean we'd ever think of keeping as their favorite food! I'd watch him very carefully as he grows.
13" could be a problem - but the only other antidote to mantis i've heard of (besides my traps that couldn't catch a cold) is a zebra morray eel. I'd rather not have an eel in my tank. I have no crustaceans in my tank now anyways as they've all been removed becase they were taking the bait out of my mantis traps. Now my worms take the bait religiously so time for plan C.
