Tanks at 90° this morning, everything looks okay though. Heater, lights and cover is off and will let temp gradially drop.

Tronic (Hagen) 200W purchased Oct/02, Normally kept tank within 0.5°

That's really strange, since Tronics have a microchip that controls the on-off of the element. Must have been a bad chip. I've used them for years and never had one cook a tank (unlike the one ebo-jager I used. :? ).

Ditto what Sharkky said.

We've sold them for several years and have never had a single return or complaint due to a thermostat failure.

I wouldn't mind more input about these Tronics as I was just going to take mine out of the tank and put them horizontally in the sump. Could there be a problem? (By the way I've had a Tronic in my FW tank for over 10 years with no problems).

We do that all the time.

FYI, we are also experimenting with the new ViaAqua titanium units. Need time to ensure their long-term reliability.

Thanks Matt. I'd like to get the Tronics out of sight. Now I'll see if they burn a hole in my acrylic sump  If so- oh well, another project. Mop ready.

Was mounted vertical.

Based on comments exchanged at LFS for another of the same.

Interesting though, kid there said he would need to check it wasn't working correctly before giving me another. He put it in a tank, plugged it in, LED was on for a bit then went off. Said, yup broken, then gave me a replacement. Either way wasn't going to use the original in my tank again.
