I am shopping around for skimmers.... Mine works but Am goin to increase the Bio Load and want a new skimmer..... a comparable Euro-reef will not fit in my sump..

1. How big is ur tank and how much bioload do you have ( light, medium, large amount)?

2. What Model skimmer?
3. which pump runs it?
and your opinion on efficency....

thanks...

I have the Aqua-C 180 running on a 120 with a 75g sump. My load is fairly light as the tank is new. Its running on a mag9, but I think a mag7 would do fine.

The only real disadvantage to this skimmer is that it is sensitive to different things and goes flat easily. Its starts up again soon so no big deal. Also it took mine a long time to start skimming in a brand new tank. 6 weeks! Southdown in suspension seems to be one of the things that represses skimming.

Anyway, other than that works great and would recommend it.

I use several here in my store under pretty heavy loads and haven
t had any problems. But like Dan I've noticed they go flat pretty easily.

I have an EV-120 on a 75g in a 20g sump. I have a light bio load as the tank is still fairly new. It's powered by a Mag 5. I haven't had any trouble with it, I have had to clean salt creep out of the air intake a couple of times.

I've had both the EV 180 and currently a 240. The 180 was run on several different pumps and honestly the one it worked best on was a Mag 7. It also worked really well with a blueline 800, but the blueline had to be choked back pretty hard, and well, was overkill. Currently I'm using the EV240 with a CSL T3. Probably, a slightly stronger pump would be better, but it does run with this pump. I switched from the blueline to the CSL cause my system doesn't run hot and noise REALLY bugs me. The tank is in the living room. I personally really like these skimmers. Yes they are relatively sensitive ie go flat when you feed etc..., but BFD. They'll start foaming up again soon enough. You can easily adjust to the type of skimmate you want--light green to sludge. Built REALLY well. Easy to plumb externally--I don't really like taking up sump space unnecessarily. Pretty quiet. The EV 180 was practically silent. The 240 makes a slight whistling noise through the ozone connection. To top it off, the customer service from Jason Kim is unparalleled.

I would get a mag 9.5 instead. Ask Jason what he think is the best pump to go with. I find it works much much better with 9.5 than 7. Of course I had the older version of EV's, EV-150. Maybe the new model has modifications that no longer requires big'ol pumps.

I ordered my EV180 from Jason. I got it with the Mag 7 and it's working good on my 125g FOWLR - medium bioload.
