what else can an orange linckia eat??

about a mont ago i had a huge algae problem and a worker at a lfs told me to try a small orange linckia (and a few turbos) well everything was cool until every bit of algae dissapeared overnight.
I ve been putting prime reef chuncks under it but it dosent look like its been eating it though, i cant tell. anthing else?????

Don't worry, it will eat all those cool little critters in your live rock and sand.

Linkia for algae control is an excellent example of incompetent LFS advice.

I've never kept one, but I believe they eat detritus etc. If you tank is well aged it may find enough to get by on.

my tank is kind of small 29 gallons but it has tons of ls and lr. the star is only a few inches.

They do not eat most forms of algae.

They do not eat detritus.

They do not eat critters in a sand bed...they may, may eat some small critters like copepods...but really it is not very well known or understood.

They can not be spot fed anything.

They belong in large, mature reef systems, at least 55g with at least 75lbs of LR. They only feed on algal/bacterial films (not macro or hair algae, or most pest algae), the critters that feed on that, and/or various sponges, tunicates, etc on healthy mature LR.

Most will starve to death in 8-12 months.
