I just bought a foxface fish a couple of days ago. Unfortunately, circumstances kept him in the bag for about 5 hours after the purchase. He didnt look so well when i finally got him home and doesnt look alot better now. His eyes are kinda cloudy and he spends alot of time sitting on the sand in a cave. He swims around from time to time, but I have yet to see him eat. I would be suprised if he lives . Is there anything that I can do to help him. I am sure that it is just stress, and I havent heard of a cure for that?

Also, my yellow tang seems to crowd him a bit in that cave. Is that normal?

I would take him back to your LFS and see if they will exchange it. Try not to buy a fish if the circumstances are going to keep him the back that long. You could try transfering him to a quarantine tank as see if a small dose of copper will clear the eyes up.

as you already have him in the main tank I assume that you do not quarantine your fish. I would reccommend that you think about getting a setup for this purpose before spending money on more fish. A very basic setup of a small tank, filter and heater are all that are required. As the tank will be very small there is not need for skimmers etc as:

1. You will probably be dosing medicines and these all require that the skimmer is turned off.
2. The amount of water is small and only one fish therefore water changes to keep nitrate down will not be a problem.

The same reasons apply for UV units as well.

The price of two fish could save you so much more in the end.

I have a Foxface and when I first got her she was not in very good condition her eyes where kinda glazed over and she was so shy she would not come out from under the rock. What I found the she would eat was Brown seaweed select. but not when anybody was around. and also I would use sinking herbivore pellets . I forget the manufactor but they are in a green container. I used the small ones. they seem the really love these it took her a few days to come out and strart eatting in front of me. but once see started eatting her eyes have cleared up and she is very health . you might try this and see if it helps

I second the Seaweed Selects. My Foxface voraciously eats all of the varieties. (Green, Red, and Brown although my guess is that the red is his favorite) You need something to hold it down, though, and if the Foxface doesn't eat it, eventually your snails will.

Another thing the Foxface liked was "Tang Heaven" that I bought from FF Express. I have none left, though, because I have too many herbivores in my tank, but the Foxface would nibble on it all day long. He was relatively skinny when I got him, but he's nice and plump now like all my other fish.
