I may have the chance to buy the current aquarium that I maintain. I know how much the initial equipment cost was, $500 for tank, stand, pumps, 100 watts of Triton fluoresence lights, one heater, skimmer, sump and two huge coral skeletons, all previously used. I also know the cost of all the additional stuff.

What would you pay for this?

120 gal reef ready with dual corner overflows and three return bulkheads. I don't know the brand but it isn't AGA or Oceanic. It is a 6 foot long tank.

POS fiberboard stand which will be demolished at teardown.

Amiracle sump. 15 to 20 gallons.

Emperor Aquatics skimmer.

Two Little Giant pumps, 1/10 hp, 4MDQ-SC model

Two heaters

Two Aquaclear 802 powerheads

Four tube, 100 watt fluorescent lighting system

40 lbs Fiji live rock

300 lbs of live sand, mostly Southdown

7" Regal Tang

7" Lunare Wrasse

4" White Damsel

2" Fiji Blue Devil

2" Three Stripe Damsel

This tank has been set up for two years.

I'm mostly interested in the tank, pumps and sump. It would probably go into storage until I find a bigger place to set it up. The rock would either be absorbed in my smaller tank or sold with some of the fish. I can handle keeping the smaller fish. Most of the sand would be tossed after seeding local reefer's beds.

I do tank maintenance too. You have to consider time involved with tear-down relocation. I wouldn't pay more than $200.00 or so. There is a lot of time involved.

If it's a place that's closing, lowball and hope they don't get mad at you.
If it's a personal associate that you would like to have further cantact with go a little higher.
But IMO,
fish are worth mabey $15-20
Sand is almost worthless unless you can not disturb it too much.
#40 of rock is fairly cheap also.
the tank and rest, (if it looks well used) lowball would be about $200

The store where the tank is located maybe closing for the wintertime. The owners are my landlords so I want to give them a fair price.

The sky is the limit on how much you want to pay for the setup. But, you have to factor in the effort to tear-down, transport, and re-setup the setup. Lots of the setup do not work right after the move and the sand are really not worthy to keep after the move. You can salvage maybe 20lbs of sand for seeding, but that's about it. After you see how much junks sand trapped, you don't want to spend time to clean them out.

Besides, you can get the setup cheaper if the owner would like to sell the fishes back to LFS himself. Those fish may not be what you want to keep anyway.
