Nipple: Up or down- (no, this doesn't belong in the sump)

Does it matter on 400W MH bulbs (non-electronic ballast)? I will be running (2) 6500K Iwasakis, and (1) 10,000K Ushio.

Also, I added a new bulb (10,000K) and it won't fire. I tried with two different sockets with two different ballasts (I even swapped ballasts and sockets) and then I noticed a small metal ball in the inner part of the bulb. Is this bulb simply bad?

All Bulbs have them. Point the nipple of the bulb up for the best color and performance out of your bulb.

Do you think it is a safe assumption that the 10,000K bulb is bad?

Sometimes, rarely, a bulbs takes a minute or so to ignite. Also make sure the bottom of the bulb is touching the little metal tab inside the ballast. If none of those work, yeah I'd think the bulb might be bad.
