I posted my dive pics a couple days ago and now have finally gotten through my pics that I took while snorkeling. The snorkeling pics were taken with the Olympus 5050Z and the PT-015 housing only. Much easier in shallow water not to have to worry about light and the colors filtering out of the water!

Most of the pics were taken in less than 5' of water. The island I was at had just had a hurricane in January that really had done some damage to some of the reef. There were still plenty of beautiful corals and fish to look at though!

Here is a teaser pic!

Wow, it looks like the snorkling in Fiji is just as good if not better than the diving.

Those tables are awesome!

Does anybody know what are the rules and regulations about taking corals or frags from the wild in Fiji or the islands in the pacific? It seems to be it would be very easy for someone on vacation there to get small (2") frags and mail them overnight delivery (FedEx or UPS) to themselves here. Even easier would be to bring them with thenselves in a small cooler since they would occupy a tiny amount of space. I guess the authorities would have a field day with one here at the airport requiring quarintine and such crap for it unless there is a way around it.

Does anyone know??

I know I was VERY tempted to take some frags home with me. Especially some of the frags that were already frags laying in the sand that were going to suffocate in the sand. I'm assuming these broke off from a storm or something. I couldn't resist the urge to pick some of the prettiest ones up and place them and secure them in a prime spot instead of letting them die.

Once I got to LAX and saw the signs about fines up to $25,000 for bringing in restricted items I was glad I didn't risk bringing any in. I think any corals are regulated by CITES and would be considered restricted I'm pretty sure.

If anyone knows otherwise I would love to bring some back next time! ;)

CITES is the permit you need to pass or transport an endangered species from one country to another.
There are diferent levels or degrees in CITES, and accordingly to how endangered the species is, they can be under CITES I (this is for the most endangered species) or CITES II and so on.
