Does anyone keep Pygmy Angelfish with other dwarf angelfish (eg. flame, lemonpeel) with success? Please share your experience.

I kept a Centropyge argi (Caribbean Angel) with a C. bispinosus (Coral Beauty) in an 80 g tank. The argi was introduced first; they got along great, even feeding right next to each other.

BIG fan of Centropyge argi here, I don't think you can find a more peaceable, hardy angelfish of ANY sort. I would think that, as long as you keep to very dissimilar species, you would be able to keep it with other dwarves of the same genus. I would also do it exactly as Matt described, as they are not only quite small, but not at all pugnacious.

Ha! Although it's one of my favorite fish, I have to take issue with the "peacable" part! 8O C. argi is easily one of the most, if THE most aggressive of the centropyge. They are known for this, and my experience as been no different. I'm talking a dozen or so specimens from my personal experience over the years. My current one is 3 years old, and the boss of his tank. Don't get me wrong, they are GREAT fish, and very hardy! I love those little guys, tons of personality too.
However, I would not risk keeping them with other dwarf angels unless the tank is very large, say 180 gallons +. They should usually be the last fish added when speaking of a mixed community, but when adding with other dwarfs, you just roll the dice. It can be done in smaller tanks, I've done it before as well, but I wouldn't recommend this to someone else necessarily.
Sometimes you just get lucky like Matt for instance, but this experience should in no way be cause to call the species as a whole mellow! I've experienced a calm clown trigger, but I realize that's the exception rather than the rule. C. argi is a little fireball of a fish, and you should assume that it's going to be aggressive in your setup. If you get lucky, great! Just don't PLAN on it.

Cheers

I forgot to mention that the argi was about half the size of the coral beauty. I wouldn't have tried it if they were similar in size and if I hadn't been sort of forced to by a careless fellow fishkeeper. I've heard stories of people pairing Centropyge, particularly loriculus, by adding 4-5 juveniles in a large tank and then removing the most beat up fish one by one until a pair is left. Pairs might occasionally be available for sale as well. I believe "mulberry" here on RDO has a flame angel pair.

As far as dissimilar in appearance and both peaceful, I think the coral beauty and flame are a pretty good pair.

C. argi is a GREAT fish to establish pairs with! You can witness breeding behavior on a daily basis. Again, a great little reef fish.

Cheers
