I'm about to replace my Lifereef Lf150 and 36" Skimmer with a larger sump and a EuroReef CS8-2 Skimmer. I have a 190 Gallon reef tank and was wondering if anyone had any feedback on this model for a tank my size. Vibration noise of pump, performance, that sort of thing. Also looking the least expensive place to purchase it. Jeff's has it for $528.00, has anyone seen it for less?

Euro Reef's are easy to clean and quiet. I do tank maintenance in my area & got one of my customers to switch to it. Even he noticed the difference. I highly recommend that brand. They take up alot of room in a sump, but to me it is worth it. It is nice when you pay alot for something that it is built & performs like it.
Happy skimming!

Vibration is minimal, noise is minimal, performance is awesome, setup and maintanence a cinche! In other words, you are doing good getting the Euroreef. The CS8-2 is perfect for your 190 gallon.

As for pricing, it's really all about the same, differing by no more then a few bucks here and there. Matter of fact, I think most places that sells it will price match. Call a few of our sponsors up and see what kind of deal you can get for one. Remember to consider shipping costs as well.

I have one...and I love it!

It is not silent, but the noise is minimal. I cut out a piece of rubber in the shape of the footprint to minimize the vibration noise, and it is now almost silent.

They skim like crazy, and are VERY easy to maintain. I am thinking about modifying the cup to drain to a remote container...but haven't gotten up the nerve to drill into my $550 skimmer

I have had mine since September 2002, and I haven't cleaned the pump yet so I can't comment on that. I do dip the air tube into a cup of RO/DI once in a while (per the instructions) but I don't notice a difference afterwards.

Anyway, I would highly recommend this skimmer to anyone.

I must say....I just got my Euroreef last week and I will never have a tank without one ever again. Nor will I recommend anything else. These things outperform any skimmer I've ever seen. Well, except for those 10 foot tall homemade jobbies :>

If you can afford it and have the room in your sump, the CS12-2 is a fantastic skimmer. I have one on my 180 gallon reef tank and I love it. The extra margin of error it gives you is worth the extra money IMO. I previously had a CS8-2 and while it was a great skimmer I felt it was a little undersized for my fully stocked 180 gal reef. HTH.

Wow, thanks for all the input. I think I will order from Marine Depot. The CS12-2 loks good too, but I can just see telling my wife I just bought a $708.00 skimmer after the truck load of cash I've already spent setting this tank up.
Does Euroreef have a website? Would like to see what size tank the CS8-2 is rated for. Marine Depot says 155 while Jeff's Exotic fish says 500.

Do you have a picture of your CS12-2 hard at work, now I'm considering it, thanks a lot.

Jime,

I'm sorry but I don't have a picture. However, I can assure you that it works great; better than my previous CS8-2. Look on the Euroreef website and there is a picture of a very nice aquarium owned by Robert Dalton which uses a CS12-2 skimmer. I really believe it is worth the extra money. I've learned that spending a little more money up front on good equipment is well worth it and often ends up saving money in the long run. Go for it now if you can afford it and I assure you that you won't regret it. Plus you can still use the skimmer if you eventually move up to a larger tank.

I think I'll have to stick with the CS8 series, my sump is 40x20x16 however there are dividers which make the largest open portion only 17x20, which is to small for the CS12 footprint. I'm now leaning towards the CS8-4 or the new CS8-3+ which has 2-500s on it. Can't find anyone who has the new model though.

Just ordered the CS12-2. Euroreef said they could adjust the footprint to fit in my sump. Thanks for all the input and when I return from vacation I will post photos of the new set up. I'll also be selling my Lifereef LF-150 and Lifereef 36" skimmer.
