Can anyone reccomend a good, inexpensive automatic feeder? i will be away for about 2 weeks and I'm not trusting anyone with feeding the fish. 2 weeks will be a long time without food. Thanks! :D

nutrimatic, battery operated.

2x a day and worry free

I got one this past summer for my vacation, and I've had it set-up since.

I think I paid around $10 for it.

I have to recommend one that I found at www.liveaquaria.com It cost $80, but it was well worth it. It's AC powered rather than battery, so you can plug it in to your light timer and feed anywhere from 1-5 times a day (your choice). I feed 3 times a day with a pellet food, and it has enough compartments to last a week.

The big drawback with those battery powered ones is that the feedings are 12 hours apart. This means you're feeding right when the lights come on, and right when they go off. If you don't calibrate it exactly, then you're feeding a tank full of hiding fish. I suppose you could keep your lights on 14 hours a day to get around this....

Have someone feed the fish and portion and package out the amount of food for each day. I use empty film container. An adult should know how to follow that direction and not over feed.

I don't think anyone will be here, since it will be over a holiday.
I guess than it's time to dig deep into your pocket. Get a reliable feeder because you won't like it if it mal function and dumpa can of food into your tank.

I use the Eheim fish feeder and will not use anything else. It is battery powered with digital readout. You program it for what ever time you want and can have up to four feedings per day. You can also choose to have it rotate once or twice per time.

Its been very reliable and I have used two for when I was away a couple of weeks.

They run about $50, but well worth it.
