Hi,
I was just wondering if this could be done. I have just finished building a corner overflow for my tank. unfortunatly it blew my mind to get colored arcylic. So now I have a clear overflow. Can I paint the overflow somehow? Thanks.

I've painted an overflow before. Make sure it is a indoor outdoor acrylic latex paint. After you have let it dry and cure for 48 hours cover the entire painted section with a 100% clear silicon. Just to be on the safe side let the silicon cure for 48 hours also. After that your good to go.

I painted the return pipe elbow from my surge tank black with Melamine paint by Varathane. When dry and cured it turns to a plastic coating.

I painted the pipe, let it dry for 48 hours. Then I threw it into my pool for a week. As a final test I then threw it into a fw aquarium to test for fish stress (none) for another week. Then I put it ito place in the SW tank. No ill effects. But because I think the stuff could leach nasties for a while I can't recommend it. Also, this is a 2" 90 degree elbow in a 140 tank. Relatively little exposure. Looks great though.

How would you put silicone all over the paint? I would guess you would paint the inside of the corner overflow. Also, is using melamine to much of a risk?, could I put epoxy over the melamine. By the way I posted the message for jake up above, i'm helping him out with his tank.

What about marine grade paints and varnishes? The person to ask about THAT would be knucklehead, IIRC he's a ... what's it called? A boatswain?

If I'm going for a bluer paint, do you know what marine paint I should get, and should I finish it, I think I need someone to walk me through this whole thing. Would I just use the marine paint only, no finsihes or epoxy? I need to know exactly what brand and name of paint, and how to do it. I'm paint retarded. Thanks
