Have it been proven that reef suppliments other than calcium and alks are not beneficial to reef aquariums. Strontium , iodide, and so on...
The elements in our salt mix are enough who has done the experiment to see if this is true. I know success have been achieved with addition of suppliments and without

The general concensious is if you don't test for it don't add it. And for the most part, it seems to me most suppliments are a waste of money.

I don't believe any type of 'real' experimentation has been done, but many people has the same results after they stop using suppliments.

here here!

I'm one of the many. My new policy is the abovementioned: Don't add if you don't test.

After adding a Ca reactor, I haven't added any suppliment other than the occasional shot of magnesium. I do test for it.

I add Strontium and Iodine to my fish tank and i dont see any changes but i figure it can't hurt anything but my wallet. After i started adding the iodine my CBS and my peppermint shrimp both started shedding more and i know that iodine is supposed to help. then again, it could all be in my head...

IMO, it can hurt more than your wallet. The elements added in supplements can be very toxic to invertebrates if overdosed. The problem is that very few people have reliable test kits for Molybdenum, Strontium, Iodine, or whatever else they might be adding to their tank.

In my experience, regular water changes of about 5% a week are enough to replenish trace elements.
