i have a purple plate coral (fungia of course!) and it will be in a different spot in the morning from where i put it the night before, anywhere from 1-6 inches. do they move around that much or do you think something is pushing it like my turbo snails. it happens every night and i wonder if it isnt happy. it doesn't always move in the same direction.

They do move after puffing up like a hovercraft, but snails certainly can help them on the motion.

I don't know if they can control the direction of the movement, or the rate... it is just a random motion, it seems.

I've read they can control it, through inflation/deflation of the tissue.

Matt's right -- fungia kinda inflate/deflate like a hot air balloon...the one I used to have could move a foot or so in a day. Pretty neat to watch..

As I said, they puff up like a hovercraft... you know, the type of boat with an air cushion that can move across water and land ?!? What I am doubting is rather they can move in a predicable, controllable if you will, manner.
