septic system and reef tank

I've been out of the hobby for a while but want to get back in. However, I now live in a house that is on a septic system and I'm wondering if i can even have a salt water tank on septic system? Will the salt water (water changes, etc) screw up the septic system?

I do not see where it would be a problem. The amount of salt in a water change would be small in comparison to the anount of fresh water you will be passing through the system with toilets, showers, wahsing dishes and laundry. Unless of cource you are going with a public aquarium sized display. If you are worried you could dump the water change water in the stom drain or out in an unused part of your back yard.

As Wazzel said, the amount of saltwater will not be too much to be of concern, but make sure you clean the septic tank as adviced. Most septic tank is in the neighborhood of thousand of gallon in capacity, and as long as you don't do hundreds of gallon of water change every year, it should not be a problem.
