Has anyone tried this? I have probably 500 or more mojanos in my 155. I can kill them with many applications of boiling kalkwasser or injections of vinegar, but they are dividing faster than the several attempts it takes per anmeone to kill it. And what is worse if I don't kill it the first time it turns into three, then five, in short order, I think the stress puts them into super divide mode. The problem is I have so many. I have been taking the worst rocks out, covering the mojanos in a thick layer of boiling hot kalk, then keeping the rock in my dark sump for a month, this is my most foolproof way to kill them, but it isn't 100% and it is SO labor intensive. And I obviously can't do it to the rocks that have corals on them.

I have been planning on tossing all my infested rock (which is most of it) when I can and relacing it with new rock. It is quite a depressing scenario, but I have been battling these anemones for about three years, and I am at a loss.

The claims this guy is making are pretty bold. If I could find a way to kill mojanos the first application, it would be a dream come true.

I ordered some just a few days ago, when I get it if I see this post afterwards I will let you know. I only have one or 2 so I bought the small bottle. I want to stop the problem before it grows.

It almost looks like they're feeding it some sort of suspended powder -- maybe kalkwasser powder?

I bet the stuff is kalk powder mixed with Selco/Selcon. I recall reading somewhere that the solution had a +11 pH so it is alkaline and adding selco or selcon to it would elicit a feeding response from an Aiptasia. I've got some selcon in the fridge and some kalk powder in the basement. Lemme mess w/ it and I'll let you know. I got a couple big Aiptasia's to clean off a rock. :D

Chucker's Juice (food-grade NaOH) works pretty well. You can order it from [email protected] for about half of the price but with a uglier bottle. ;)

I tried the 1 M NaOH method a while back and it does melt them incredibly fast. However, I had to make sure that I injected them in the base which is something I couldn't necessarily do as they hid in the rockwork pretty well. If I didn't get them in the base, they always returned.

I always went with "Chucker's Juice"

I used the Seachem Calcium liquid and had no trouble getting rid
of the pests.
(and I didn't need to inject the base)
(and I didn't need to add calcium for a couple weeks)

Hi, I've tried the JoesJuice with very good results. I haven't had one grow back, and I don't have to "chase" them down into the crevices. Only problem is the fluid leaking out of the applicator once I put it into the water. I think I need to obtain a regular hypedermic needle from a friend.
I'll definitely order again.

Hey poggipj.

Welcome to reefs.org. You have any clue what the stuff is made of? You wouldn't blindly add an unknown substance would ya?

Well, I wouldn't want to be the first one to do it. But I had read several posts by people who had tried it with good results. No idea what it is.. but it works!

Has anyone tried any butterflies to control majano anemones? We have a tank that is absolutely infested with them. I was thinking that even an obligate corallivore could work, because I have constant access to tidepool anemones, little corynactis polyps, gorgonians, etc that I could feed it after its done its job.

FWIW, we've tested it in one of our employee's tanks and it indeed seems to work. However, we are very leery about recommending and/or selling a product with no ingredients list.

Also, if it pH 11+ there really should be a warning or something on the packaging (there are none whatsoever - it doesn't even say "don't drink this!")

We've tried to discuss these issues with Joe Gatto, the owner, but he is somewhat paranoid that we are trying to steal the formula, so he doesn't want to talk to us.

Isn't there some law somewhere that states you have to show ingredients or warnings on the label? I would think you would have to considering the stuff is caustic. I can see another hot coffee / McDonalds lawsuit potential here.

I think the law on ingredients is an FDA requirement and thus only applies to foods and drugs (for humans).

A niche product like this can "fly under the radar" virtually forever. I mean, if collecting money was the only concern, who would you rather sue: McDonalds or Joe Gatto? :)

MattM, Did you use it on majanos? How long ago, did they come back?

I've tried everything kalk, NaCo3, muriatic etc, and they always come back. I did have a raccoon butterfly who loved them, and never touched a coral or clam, but he's gone, and they just keep coming back.

Be warned, others I've talked to have very bad experiences with raccoon's.

Matt, My 150 was loaded about 8 mo. ago. I tried all the quick fixes out there without much success. I picked up a young Copperband and it wiped every one out in a couple weeks. If I get any aptasia in any of my other tanks, I place the rock in with the butterfly and he cleans it up within a day. The 5 Peppermint shrimps did nothing nor did the aptasia eating nudi that cost me $50. Boiling water, kalk injections and cursing all did nothing!
