i have shown this before and i know someone who has done it with no problem. i have a 55 gal. established for 10 months and a 30 gal. acrylic and if i have only crushed coral and fresh saltwater in the 30 wouldnt it be just like doing a water change or do we need to take bacteria into consideration, and if so could i use "cycle" bacteria to help at the start. basically trying to have 2 show tanks for different species and adding 30 gallons of volume. any experienced comments welcome. see attachement

why use crushed coral? a fine grain sand would be better, in the long run. crushed coral is a dirt trap, bigtime

and yes, you can plumb a tank in line to an existing one to speed up the maturing of the 'new' tank.the extra water volume is akin to a water change-you're diluting the concentration of evrything present in the existing tank

this will be negated as the 'new' tank develops on it's own, and begins to produce it's own waste

i appreciate your opinion and im glad someone agrees with me. the reason i want to use crushed coral is because i have fine sand mixed with live sand in my main tank and the fine sand gets blown all over the live rock, by my damsels and it blocks the algea from the tank. maybe i should go with the same sand.
