My bak pak the other night, while i was sleeping, mysteriously started overflowing, what a mess. Anyways i have not idea what caused it, i turned it off and the next day i turned it on and it has worked great since? (sorry about the run on sentence) Has anyone else experienced this unexplained phenomenon?

nothing appeared to clog the return and the pump was working fine, as far as i was able to tell it functioned fine except it overflowed on the return side? :? What the hell?

You probably already know this, but...if something clogs the air intake on the pump, it will start putting out a lot more flow and could cause problems.

Maybe something plugged it for a while and then cleared (ex. salt creep or some misc. crud)...?

The last time I used a BakPak was probably 5 or 6 years ago, but I remember having to clean the powerhead quite often...

That was my thinking as well Chris.

I know that when I had my backpak if I didn't keep the Rio600 spotless then there was bound to be problems.

I cleaned the powerhead/air lines at least one time a week if not two. Kind of a pain but gotta do what you gotta do.

Suck some warm RO water in through the air intake line every few days, paying attention to do only a little at a time so you don't overflow. That will slow down the buildup and you won't have to dismantle and clean it so often.

I must be living right. I have been running BakPaks for years. I clean them every 6 months, including the the powerhead, and have never had this problem.

Anyway, my $.02.

Me too, I run them on my customers tanks with no problems. Every once in a while (6mos or so) I clean the air intake.
