I get home from work today and what do I find??? My brain coral has shriveled up like my nuts in an ice bath. Any ideas? Everything else in the tank seems to be just fine.

Hi all,

I have attached a picture of my suffering brain to this post.

Yes, mine is in its death throws, too. It was always milky white with green floursescence, but it just got skinnier and skinnier. Now its mostly dead. Anyone think this guy can come back? I have put him on the bottom of the tank, and fed him some coral food.

If anyone has advice for us, please write in! Perhaps get him away from the shrimps etc.?

Thanks,

Paul

It is about 6" under (4) 55watt 50/50 pc bulbs(220 watts total). Ive had the thing since the beginning of January and it has been fine until today. I just did a water change Sunday with a new salt (I went from Coralife to Oceanic) but I dont think that would have done it.

I got one that has turned rock hard, but it is still retaining it's color. I moved him up in the tank, but I don't know what else I can do.

melanotaenia,

the picture's pretty blurry, but I don't see the same area chewed away like DLART89's. Yours is probably fine, just a temporary thing. Have you checked your water paramaters?

paulfromero,

Yours looks like it's too far gone.

We need to know what other fish and or inhabitants you guys are keeping with these corals.

OMG.... good news to all. After I thought my brain had gone flatline, I moved it into one of my grow tanks lit by a 15k MH 175watt and after almost a month, its back to near normal. This is great. I do understand now why lighting is SO important in reef tanks.
