I have a Custom 20g Reef (no fish). It has been up for about 3 months and I purchased a cleaner shrimp to help with excess food and 'clean' the tank. My roomates shrimp is constantly scurring around the tank cleaing where as mine will hide under the liverock and it stays there. I added it yesterday. Do I need to feed them something in particular? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Jeff

It will probably get a little more bold as it gets comfortable in your tank.

Since you have no fish, I would add a very small amount of food a few times a week for him. It has been my experience that shrimp will eat ANYTHING, so you could just feed him flake food or frozen fish food, or you could go to the seafood part of the grocery and buy a few scallops or raw shrimp, keep it frozen, and just shave off a little bit with a knife occasionally.

My cleaner shrimp tried to hide for a few days before it got comfortable enough to venture forth. Now it likes to perch on top of the tall rock in my aquarium and wait for somthing to drift by to devour.

I feed it what ever I'm feeding the rest of my citizens. He has molted a couple of times, and seems quite happy.

I think yours will be fine.

Ditto on the thoughts that he will come out more in a few days as he gets more comfortable.

My cleaners are so tame they will eat frozen food from my hand, and try to "clean" the rought sopts on my hands

I had cleaners for a while. But I found they usually don't last more than 3 years or so. I no longer think that they are worth the $25.

Oh yeah, they do hide until they are comfortable in their new home.
