Hi guys,
I have a bunch of Red & Blue Striped Mushroom Corals and I want to spread them around my tank. How do I go about doing this? Is is possible to just move them by hand?

Right now they are all sitting on a flat piece of something smooth and thin I can't identify. Any guesses on what it could be? (I know its a long shot but I thought I'd try asking anyway).

Thanks for your help!
Colin

What they are sitting on could be some kind of clam or oyster shell. I have some giant mushrooms that came on a rock with an oyster. If you want to move them around and they are all on this thin base, maybe you can break the base and place the mushrooms around your tank. Just be carefull how much you put around, they will eventually take over entire areas and then you may be trying to remove them.

There are many ways to spread shrooms. Be careful though. They can take over the tank. If you plan on diversifying they may harm the corals you want later. But if you want them to spread you can:

1. cut there heads off with a scissor and place them in holes of live rock.

2. cut some, toss them in a blender and blend away. Then pour puree in the tank.

3. cut the heads off and crazy glue them where you want.

Shocking. However many of the pieces will land on the substrate and form new colonies.

Gotta be careful they don't land on existing coral colonies. But yes, I agree with Dan: mushrooms grow like weeds and eventually you'll wish they would stop growing. Take it from me. I'm going to be shutting down my 120 gallon because I can't stop the shrooms from taking over.
