After mixing my Oceanic with RO/DI water to 1.024 I am gettting a reading of 380 with a salifert test. The alk came to 6 dKH. I wish I had one that was a bit higher in CA/ALK. What does your saltmix read when freshly mixed? Who else has tested oceanic salt?

The idea is to find out where most salt mixs start from. With out having to add anything.

Those are the lowest reading from oceanic that i've heard. usually in the 420-460 range, alk of 8 or so...are you sure your test kit is accurate? I've personally been using oceanic for about 3 months and never had a ca reading below 420!

ditto! i've been using oceanic since i set-up my 90g 3 months ago and every single time i mix a batch of water it's 440-460! oceanic has a reputation for very high calcium levels.

that said, i seem to recall seamaiden hearing something about oceanic quality control inconsistencies a while back... maybe she'll chime-in.

I have seen many postings of Oceanic testing in at 450's range which is why my test surprised me. I am using a not so old slaifert test kit. Maybe I need to go get anoughter one to double check this. I switched from a long time IO used to tropic marin then to this Oceanic when it came out b/c I was looking for a salt with a high CA/ALK consentration.

Thanks
