We are in the process of moving our reef tank's sump to the basement, adding a `fuge, larger sump and greater return pump capacity. A larger over the side overflow is needed. (Somewhere in the range of 1,400 to 1,600 gph). We often lose power and are looking for something that is reliable and will re-start in the event of power failure. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Sounds like you're talking about a hang-on overflow. I don't use hang-on overflows myself (I prefer drilling the tank and using an internal one) but Lifereef seems to have a good reputation for reliable hang-on models.

I'll move this to the main discussion forum (as well as leaving a copy in the NRF) where you're more likely to get some useful feedback. Also, do a search here on the board as the topic of hang-on overflows has come up in the past quite a bit.

Thanks for the help and advice on up-grading / up-sizing hangon overflows. The next tank will most certainly have an internal overflow. Unfortunately, our current tank is not drilled. Looks like Lifereef is well liked. Pro clear Aquatic Systems was also recommended by some people we know. Anyone familiar with that brand?
