Strange or natural behaviour of our fish?!
We know that some fish stand confessed as coral-eating fish.
A few of them are dwarf-angels,large-angels, butterflies, file fish, triggers...
But also tangs may nibble to lower animals.

Some species are:
Z. veliferum & Z. desjardinnii which pick on gorgonia's and feather dusters
A. tentennii & A. leusternon as far as I know (and heard) pick only on gorgonia's.(probably for a few months)

As far as I know, they do this only at the time they change from juveniles to adults.
Maybe they do this because they get something offered too short to food what has them necessary.
This problem is remedy if you feed them every week a bit mussel.

I want to do some more research of fishes with this strange behaviour and I need your help.
Who know's more species with a strange behaviour?!
Please share your experience with us...

I think much of it has to do with the individual "personality" of the fish.

For instance, my Z. veliferum has never ever picked on any coral, gorgonian, clam, feather duster or any other sessile invert. He is about 6 years old, and very large now.

But, my Paracanthurus hepatus, is a very bad boy. He will eat large polyped corals like open brains and occasionally takes a bite out of my leather corals. I also have him on my list of suspects for the crime of eating my xenia, but I wasn't there when it happened so I don't know for sure. He is a very well fed fish, about 4 years in my tank.
