Sea Horse

I was thinking of setting up a sea horse tank the ones i am looking at are black they are tank raised about 4 inch long are they hard to keep what do they eat will they eat flake food can I keep them I my tank nano with the othere fish or do i need to set up another nano for them what is the smallest tank i can keep them in?

Search is your friend and seahorses are best set up in species only tanks. they will NOT eat flake food. if there tank raised they should eat frozen mysis. I would also recommend checking out www.seahorse.org for lots of info on every aspect of horses.

thats why i asked about flake food the sea horses were eating chunks of silver sides I saw this for my self.....

I doubt that silversides would provide them with the needed nutrition for long. Definately do the research before trying to keep seahorses, otherwise you would just be killing them.

I used to breed dwarf seahorses, very cool experience, but requires a lot of work and a species specific tank.

Then you will not want to go the seahorse way. Its rough and needs very good husbandry. For those pending what type they are 30g+ tank or more for them to be happy just to give you an idea on the tank. 55g or so would be perfect. Just because they are small and dont swim alot doesn't mean you can keep em in a teensy tank.

Seahorses are tough to keep, I think that is what everyone is trying to say. Research is most important on these cause they can be lost very quickly.

And an FYI all seahorses must be captive bred that are sold now from what I remember wild caught ones are not legal to sell, it violates the cites agreement.

Seahorses only have a 2 year lifespan, are picky eaters and quite frankly, to properly feed them you would need to feed more than just brine shrimp or even mysis and be very patient, because frozen food has to be target fed to them.
