With only a purple tang and a cardinal fish in my 72 G, can (or should) I remove the bio bail?? I am struggling to get my nitrate below 50. I have been very diligent the last two weeks at water changes (using nothing but RO water, not over feeding amd regular testing. Could the CPR Bak Pak 2 bio bail be the source??

yep, bio balls, bio wheels, bio bails are all notorious nitrate factories.

you can try removing them, do a water change and test the water in a nother day or two to see if the levels are coming down. they should!

So I don't really need the bio bail because my live rock will handle the cycling???

I intend to add clams and hard corals soon--still need to get my water in shape.

Salinity is only 1.021 I am slowly taking it to 1.025
kH is a little high at 12
calc is at 450
pH is at 8.3
Temp is at 80
nitrite at .25
nitrate holding at 50-60 inspite of regular water changes
