Yes, that is a toadstool, some kind of Sarcophyton species.

I would agree with Dan, Lobophytum, devil's hand, finger leather, etc..

How close is that hammer coral to the new leather coral?

Hmm, you guys may be right about it being Lobophytum, but it looks to me more like my toadstools than the devil's hands I have seen. I forget about Lobophytum as a genus because I never kept one I guess! :)

I suppose one of the defining features would be if those "ridges" were folds, (as on Sarcophyton) vs actual protrusions, as on Lobophytum "devils hand".

Please do show us a photo when it is all expanded and happy. (although it looks much better than a lot of leathers the same day they were moved!)

i am on the sarcophyton team but agree that it looks too close to the ancora.

FYI, that coral may look horrible for a week.... they are often slow adjusters.

more (closer) pictures of the cap and base would be helpful. looking specifically for the types of polyps (one or two) and obvious spicules around the base (for sinularia).

absence doesn't necessarily mean it ain't but the presence would be pretty definite that it is sinularia.

single polyp type would also knock it back to sarco or lobo.

Both sarco and lobo have 2 types of polyps, Autozooids and Siphonozooids.

Hey, rcsheng. Don't worry about it, I get mixed up all the time myself, I just keep reading and learning. Sometimes I even get it right.

I'm voting again for Lobophyton. Is that allowed?

Let's see a side shot, eh?
